Jenny Lewis is currently a member and lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley. In her sweet but powerful voice, she broke hearts singing about love, family, and disappointment. The band's 2007 record Under the Blacklight gave us a darker, stronger, more confident-sounding Jenny.
In January 2006, she released her first solo album Rabbit Fur Coat on Conor Oberst's (of Bright Eyes) label Team Love. She was accompanied on RFC by The Watson Twins, and toured with them to promote the album.
Lewis has also contributed to the music of many other artists. She sang backup vocals for The Postal Service's 2003 album Give Up and appeared in the music video for "We Will Become Silhouettes." She has also worked and performed with Bright Eyes, Cursive, and (fellow Rilo Kiley member) Blake Sennett's band The Elected.
Lewis is a former child actor, appearing in movies (such as 1989's Troop Beverly Hills) and on television until 2001.
I used to love watching Troop Beverly Hills whenever it was on TV. Little did I know, that little redhead girl would be making amazing music with my favorite band years later. Blake and Jenny's voices totally drew me into the powerful emotion of their music and lyrics. I love hearing a different sound from Jenny (and Rilo Kiley) with each of the band's albums and her solo work.
Jenny Lewis is also a bit of style icon to me. She can be both thrifty and glam, and has a style that's uniquely hers.
