Dick Casablancas and Logan Echolls are good friends, and were part of the "09er" (aka rich and popular) crowd at Neptune High School. In high school, their relationship consisted of frequent partying, trips to Tijuana, playing video games, and getting high.
They had a falling out after Dicks's brother Cassidy (Beaver) committed suicide, which Logan and Veronica witnessed. Dick had a hard time dealing, and partly blamed Logan for his brother's death. Both Dick and Logan attended Hearst College after high school. Logan attempted to reach out to Dick, but Dick responded with unkind gestures (ie the finger). Logan still wouldn't give up on Dick, and was there for him when he needed him. After getting himself into plenty of trouble around the Hearst campus, Dick had nowhere else to go, and finally turned to Logan for help.
Eventually, Dick and Logan went back to their normal carefree style. They still had their problems, like when Dick found out that Logan had a short fling with his ex-girlfriend (the closest thing Dick had to a serious relationship). However, it did not seriously strain their relationship, and Dick and Logan continued to be awesome best friends forever.
